Disneyfied: “A term used for something that has been sanitized in order to project the sanctity of family values.” “The sanctity of family values?” I can’t stand that “family values” nonsense. It reminds me of just how conservative the Queer/GTQBL community has become. In their ill-thought-out attempt to assimilate with the breeders — translation: begging the breeders to accept them to the point of stopping just short of apologising for their radical past which may have inconvenienced the precious breeders on occasion — Queers have made their events and what’s left of their neighbourhoods sanitised and “Family Friendly” to try to give the impression that Queers are just like the mainstream sheeple breeders and share their conservative “family values.” Fucking Gag. And the term Disneyfied perfectly describes what they’ve done to and how they have ruined San Francisco’s Castro. Even down to their mainstream, “family values” and “family friendly” frequent weekend Disney “sing-alongs” for the mainstream breeder sheeple and their children at the local theatre. Ugh.
Hola a todos. Mi amigo/My friend had an errand to run in The Disneyfied Castro (the former Gay Mecca in San Francisco) earlier this month (enero/January 2018). As usual, when he got back I asked him, “How was The Castro.” He said, “Everyone I saw was wearing all-black and had a phone in their face. Other than at funerals, I have never seen as much black in one place as I just saw in The Castro. Literally everyone was in all-black.” I said: Nothing new there. I, too, don’t understand the sheeple’s obsession with wearing conservative all-black clothing every day of the week as if they’re severely depressed and/or it’s their “uniform.” It’s a damn strange “uniform” born out of absolute conformity where everyone thinks they must look the same to “fit in.” Stupid sheeple! But that’s the conformist tech capital San Francisco today. The opposite of the former alternative and proudly-radical Bohemian San Francisco. I asked him: Did you see any Queer boys? He paused and said, “There may have been a couple but Castro was all females pushing baby strollers. It’s as if it’s been taken over by breeder women who have decided that their sole purpose in life is to be a baby factory and who come with two babies already and who want to pump out a few more.” Yes, that’s what he’s told me many times.
The Lone, Bewildered Queer Boy Tourist in The Castro
Then mi amigo told me about this one Queer boy who was standing at Castro and Market Streets. He was looking lost or bewildered. The guy walked over and asked mi amigo if mi amigo could help him. He had a couple of questions. The first question he asked mi amigo was: “Where are all the gay guys I came here to see? All I see are women with babies. That’s not what I’ve seen pictures of for The Castro. I heard that San Francisco’s mayor died recently. Is that why everyone is wearing black?” (This tourist guy was wearing shades of blue; about the only person not wearing black). He didn’t ask his questions all at one time but they were the questioned he asked over the course of their conversation.) Mi amigo told the guy that the gay guys he came expecting to see here are mostly gone. They’ve left or have been forced out (of The City). As for the women, babies and the all-black, that’s the way it usually looks around here. Drab black with babies and even all-black baby strollers. The Millennial-zombie all-black clothing (or black and grey) has nothing to do with the mayor dying last month. The guy’s face showed disappointment and mi amigo said he felt sorry for him. The guy said he had tried to get other people’s attention but no one would give him their time and they seemed preoccupied by their phone. Mi amigo explained to him: The addiction here to phones is the highest anywhere since this is the tech capital, and the thinking seems to be that “to be and look cool and hip” you must have a phone in your face at all times which also means that one has no human contact, other than through one’s adult pacifier/the phone. The guy said: By looking at The Castro from up here with all the Rainbow Flags (they were standing at Castro/Market Streets looking down the street), I had the impression that this was like the gay mecca of the 1970s that I’ve seen pictures of. What gives? Mi amigo told the guy, “Yes, that’s the false impression they like to give around here.” He explained to him that it’s corporate marketing and deliberately gives a false impression especially to unknowing tourists who come here with the false impression that there is still a large Queer community here. The Castro has been Disneyfied (sanitised) by the corporatist conservatives for the conservative breeder “family-values” crowd with touristy trashy shit. Anything to bait the touri$t$ to the neighbourhood to try to get their dollars is what they’ve done. In one way, the conservative corporate trash around here have tried to make The Castro look like the 1970s gay mecca with the installation of lots of Rainbow Flags. But if the flags weren’t up, The Castro would look like any other area in The City and that’s because now it is like any other area in The City. The Castro is now the Breeder Mecca, it’s not a gay mecca. And some of us locals get the impression that the remaining gay guys still living here have gone back in the closet based on their behaviour when in public as well as based on their personal sex ads on CL with their obsession with the word “discreet,” “discreet,” “discreet,” “discreet,” “discreet,” and “down low” and “no one needs to know; just between us behind closed doors.” Their ads refer to a “discreet blow job.” What exactly is that? What does a “non-discreet blow job look like?” Is that a blow job that you get or give out in the middle of the sidewalk while people are passing? Sadly, these are Castro and Upper Market closet case gay guys writing this closeted nonsense in a former “Out and Proud” Gay Mecca. It’s really quite sad when you stop and think about it and what we once had here in San Francisco compared to the closeted way it is today. Today, it’s the opposite of the way it used to be around here to the delight of the conservatives (including Queer conservatives who have warmly welcomed the conservative “family-value” breeders and their broods to the neighbourhood). During the height of the Gay Mecca years, there was none of this “discreet, down low or behind closed doors – no one needs to know” nonsense that one reads today. But this is what happens when Queers are once again in the minority after (homophobic?) Millennial-zombie breeders take over a gay area. Queers go back in the closet because they no longer feel safe or secure around (homophobic) breeders. (Related: Gay people are now thought of as “funny” in San Francisco).
Mi amigo said he felt sorry for the Queer boy tourist — who was probably in his 20s or 30s — because he was alone and had come all the way here to see The Castro thinking it was something uniquely special. Mi amigo didn’t find out where the guy was from (someplace here in the SHITHOLE US, he thinks), but it’s doubtful he’ll be back to visit judging by the look on his face.
I remember writing sometime ago that this is exactly what I thought would happen with some tourists coming to see The Disneyfied Castro for the first time. Visitors would expect The Castro Village to be like what they’ve seen in videos, documentaries, films and books from during the height of the Gay Mecca years. Again, today it’s nothing like that. So the conservative corporate trash (who have never liked gay areas of major cities to begin with and referred to them pejoratively as “gay ghettos”) and who feel they know best and run things around here with their ill-based decisions can put up all the Rainbow Flags they want to try to deceive/dupe the tourists, but the fact is most of the tourists — especially the international tourists — are not stupid (just like this guy that mi amigo talked with was very intelligent), and they see the area for what it is today (the Breeder Mecca), and they leave feeling very disappointed that they got here years too late. UPDATE: Immediately after I posted this article, I read several headlines all saying the same thing: One of the national corporatist Queer organisations in the shithole US conducted a poll which for the first time in its four-year history showed a decline for GTQBLs among the US population. It seems that the breeders in the US “suddenly” feel “less comfortable” with Queers than they did. I would say that’s their problem, but it becomes our (Queers) problem when breeders act on their prejudice, hate and bigotry and resort to hate and violence against Queers/GTQBLs. But I wonder why that might be; why do they now feel this way (“suddenly uncomfortable” with Queers)? Has gay marriage backfired? Has “gay assimilation” backfired? Is this increased anti-Queer/bigoted thinking among breeders a result of the blatantly anti-Queer basura en la casa blanca? This should put to rest that bull shit that we were hearing awhile back from some delusional and wishful-thinking (conservative) Queers — who supported getting rid of gay meccas in major cities — that “gay people can now live anywhere; gay is now mainstream.” Oh shove it up your ass, you fucking idiots! I have no patience for your nonsense. What drugs are you on to believe that caca? As I’ve pointed out many times, gay people can’t live anywhere even in the closet for fear of being the subject of ridicule/hate/violence (including being killed) and that’s especially the case for trans individuals.
